We are your Your Sanitation Think-Tank

Tersus is a private Environmental Sanitation Think-Tank in Ghana with the mandate of providing adequate basic sanitation consultancy services in Ghana. We aim at raising the profile of sanitation among all stakeholders, including communities. We believe that for environmental sanitation to succeed, it is vital to secure full participation in the planning, design and implementation of environmental sanitation initiatives.

Tersus brings together Private Sector, government and academia who provide the highest quality research, policy recommendations, and analysis on a full range of public policy issues in the sector of waste management.

Professor Christopher Gordon

Board Chairman

Professor Christopher Gordon is the Director of the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies at the University of Ghana. He holds a PhD in Human Environmental Sciences from King’s College, University of London, a MSc and BSc in Zoology from the University of Ghana, Legon. His research interests include climate change adaptation, integrated water resources management, pollution from extractive industry and use of ecosystem based approaches to adaptation; sanitation and waste management.

Dr. Ebenezer Owusu-Sekyere

Executive Member

Ebenezer Owusu-Sekyere holds a PhD in Geography and Resource Development. He is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Development Studies, Faculty of Integrated Development Studies and Director of the Center for Distance Education, University for Development Studies, Tamale. His research interests include urban studies, Water and Sanitation, Environmental Management, and Disaster Risk Management.

Dr Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko

Dr Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko holds BSc in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, MSc and PhD from the Netherlands. Dr Nyarko has been working for the past 23 years in the field of Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation with experience in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Cote D’Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso, Rwanda and Nigeria.

Martin Oteng-Ababio is an Associate Professor and the Coordinator of the Urban Disaster Risk Reduction Programme at the Department of Geography and Resource Development, University of Ghana, Legon. Professor Oteng-Ababio has expertise in urban studies with speciality in urban environmental management and infrastructure services, urban disaster risk reduction and the problems of informality. He is currently the President of Ghana Geographers Association and the Chairperson of the Committee of Manmade Disasters in Ghana at the NADMO Headquarters.

Samuel Nii Odai is a Ghanaian Water Resources Engineer and Professor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, where he was Pro Vice-Chancellor between 2013 and 2016.

Professor Ernest Yanful

Executive Member

Ernest Yanful is Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Western University (The University of Western Ontario), Canada. Prior to joining Western University, he worked for more than six years as Engineer, Scientist and Senior Scientist for Noranda Technology Centre, Québec, Canada and as Visiting Scientist for the National Hydrology Research Institute, Environment Canada, Saskatoon, Canada.

Dr. Eugene Appiah-Effah is a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Specialist with BSc. in Civil Engineering, MSc. in Water and Environmental Sanitation and PhD (Civil Engineering-Environmental Engineering) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi-Ghana.

Professor Dr. Dr. Daniel

Professor Dr. Dr. Daniel Buor holds two Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degrees with specialisations in Medical Geography from the University of Ghana, Legon in 2001 and Health Care Studies from Maastricht University, The Netherlands in 2004. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons.) and Master of Philosophy Degrees in Geography and Resource Development by the University of Ghana in 1981 and 1988 respectively.

Dr Simon Mariwah

Dr Simon Mariwah is a Development Geographer with research interest in the following areas: Environment and Development, Health Behaviours, Sanitation and Waste Management, and Resource Management. Holding a PhD in Geography with specialisation in Environment and Development from the University of Cape Coast, Dr Simon Mariwah is currently a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

Michael K. Adjaloo (PhD) is a Senior Research Fellow and the Director of the Technology Consultancy Centre (TCC) of the College of Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He is also in charge of the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Development (FAND) Unit of the (TCC).
